Charities

McNicholas & McNicholas, LLP supports various charitable organizations in and around the City of Los Angeles. The following are just a few of those organizations.

Urban Compass was formed through the partnership of two organizations that have been dedicated to the South Los Angeles community for over 50 years combined: Verbum Dei High School and L.A. City Camp. Both organizations have worked tirelessly over the years to provide hope to kids living in the inner city through education. Their joint efforts provide a full range of programs for K through 8th grade that include:

  • Matching university students with teachers in the elementary classroom during the school day
  • Matching local high school students with kids in the classroom after school
  • Weekend Parents Programs hosted at the elementary school
  • Coordinating and coaching sports teams formed at the school
  • Summer Bridge Program to keep kids involved while school is out
  • Coordination of quarterly trips to locations outside of the community to expose students to new experiences and to reward them for achievement at school.

Together they strive to provide a continuum of stability and support for these kids that will help keep them in school and safely usher them from kindergarten to college.

Verbum Dei High School is a Los Angeles Archdiocesan four-year college preparatory school for boys. The school, named for the Society of the Divine Word, opened in September of 1962 in the facilities of the now-defunct St. Leo’s Parish on Imperial Boulevard. During that year the present site was acquired and construction began. Each year, Verbum Dei operates an internship program where they place students with businesses to work in real would environments. The interns earn money for their work that goes directly to their tuition.

Library Foundation of Los Angeles - Providing Support for the Los Angeles Public Library in 1986, fires that devastated the Central Library galvanized the city. Corporate and community leaders responded immediately, launching a Save the Books campaign to raise funds to replace the more than 400,000 destroyed volumes. Thousands of people volunteered, millions of dollars were raised, and a legacy was created. In 1992, the Library Foundation of Los Angeles was established to raise private sector support to benefit the entire Library system -- its 71 branches and, of course, the Central Library.
