Law.com and Fox News Interview Patrick McNicholas on Delay of Settlement Payout in $4B Juvenile Hall Sexual Abuse Case
Law.com and Fox News interviewed Partner Patrick McNicholas about the delay in settlement payments in the $4 billion Los Angeles County juvenile hall sexual abuse case. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lawrence Riff refused to allow the Los Angeles County District Attorney to intervene in the settlement and stop the county from issuing the initial payments, allowing long-awaited compensation to move forward after months of delay.
McNicholas addressed allegations of widespread fraud, noting that the settlement already includes multiple layers of review to identify questionable claims. He also stated that there is no evidence of widespread fraud and warned that valid survivors should not be denied or have their claims delayed in receiving the justice and compensation they deserve.
“To be clear, and to put a precise point on it, his analysis was based on a lack of information in the county’s possession. There was no information indicating the claims were fraudulent. It was a lack of information. And there’s never been, then or now, any indication of any sort of widespread fraud,” McNicholas told Law.com.
