MyNewsLA Interviews Matthew and Patrick McNicholas on Ongoing Dispute over LA County’s Delay of Settlement Payout
MyNewsLA interviewed Partners Matthew McNicholas and Patrick McNicholas about the ongoing dispute over Los Angeles County’s delay of more than $4 billion in settlements to survivors of childhood sexual abuse in a case that settled in April 2025.
Representing many of the survivors, Matthew and Patrick emphasized the significant hardship the delay is imposing on clients who have already waited years for justice and who rely on the settlement funds for medical care, counseling, and other essential needs.
McNicholas & McNicholas, along with other plaintiffs’ firms, said in their court papers that District Attorney Nathan Hochman’s intervention has added a painful new layer to years of trauma. Many of their clients have taken out high-interest loans to support their recovery, yet they are now being denied access to those settlement funds to meet their needs.
For more than three decades, McNicholas & McNicholas has built a reputation as one of California’s leading law firms, handling a wide range of cases including personal injury and employment law matters. Founded by a family of attorneys spanning three generations, John McNicholas and sons, Patrick and Matthew, have tried hundreds of cases to jury verdict for clients.
