The Guardian Interviews Joseph McNally on the Potential Impact of Luigi Mangione’s Guilty Plea
The Guardian interviewed Joseph McNally(opens in new tab), Director of Emerging Litigation, about how Luigi Mangione’s federal guilty plea for the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson could affect the separate New York state murder case against him.
McNally added that he expects Mangione will likely receive a life sentence or something similar. Although this is a possible outcome in a state trial, Mangione’s defense would still prefer to settle the case federally.
McNally said to The Guardian, “Serving out long-term imprisonment, including life imprisonment, it’s typically better and safer for an inmate to be in federal prison than state prison.”
