CBS News LA, Los Angeles Times, and More Interview Joseph McNally About the Capture of Former Venezuelan President
CBS News Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times, and other outlets interviewed Joseph McNally, Director of Emerging Litigation, about former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was captured by the United States, flown to New York, and charged last week.
McNally notes that the conduct described in the indictment dates back to 1999, specifically, trafficking thousands of tons of drugs worldwide, including in the United States. He also says the move will be heavily debated politically, but ultimately will not impact Maduro’s prosecution.
“The Supreme Court has said that even when the government acts illegally and takes a body from a foreign country in violation of the treaty, once that body’s back in the United States, it does not have an impact on the criminal prosecution,” McNally said to CBS News.
