The Baltimore Sun Interviews Joseph McNally on Trafficking Lawsuits Against Hotel Owners
The Baltimore Sun interviewed Joseph McNally about a sex trafficking lawsuit in Maryland against several hotels. The lawsuit alleges that these hotels enabled years of sex trafficking and ignored glaring warning signs. This lawsuit is part of a growing national wave of civil litigation aimed at holding hotel operators accountable. McNally emphasized that civil litigation is not only about compensating survivors but also about creating institutional change and holding hotel operators who look the other way accountable.
“Like any area of the law, once entities see liability exposure, and that they’re being held accountable, two things happen. One, they’re more inclined to settle cases because they know the exposure. Two, and I think this is really important for victims and for society, they changed their practices. The goal in any civil action is not just to make victims financially whole, but also to really change behavior and change conduct,” McNally said to The Baltimore Sun.
